Beauty Within Me

Red chapstick and fake lashes,
Pink blush and a liquid foundation,
Sitting on my face ready for the show,
What it'll do to you,
When those eyes need to know,
That beautiful figure,
Which it definitely ain't me,
I'm just an ogre concealed,
In a body people have deemed,
Pretty and flawless,
Beautiful and gorgeous,
Really, anything opposite of atrocious.

Behind those zits and scars,
Dark circles and eyebags,
Lies a person who wants to;
Make heads turn,
Love and attention,
Because all they were getting,
Were buttons that led to self-destruction.

Where's the conviction?
To claim I'm a beautiful creature,
A creation of God,
When actions speak louder,
Much louder, I repeat,
Please take a seat,
And listen what I'm about to feat,
When actions speak louder than words.

So what if I'm,
A bit tanner and a lil' bit shorter?
A bit thicker and a lil' bit larger?
From what has been permanently,
Visioned by the minds of superficials,
As supermodels on the cover of seventeen.

What teen,
Wouldn't be eaten up by that?
Following the fad,
Thinking it was rad,
But all of it was nothing but mad,
Mad, mad perception,
That was just a deception.
